Update June 7, 2015: Adam J. tells me that he was able to spot MGM-8 recently, so all is well with that one. Thanks, Adam! Update May 10, 2015: Nick was out checking the survey marks at DHS recently and wasn't able to spot MGM-8 from outside of a roped-off special-event area, even though he thought it should have been visible from where he was. If you're at DHS and have a chance to check for that one, please let me know whether it's still there. A photo would be great, too. My email address is at the bottom of this page. Also, the bus stop near MGM-18 has been renumbered, so I've renamed the mark. And for some unknown reason, MGM-19 was moved a foot or so, but that won't affect your ability to find it. |

MGM-1 Popcorn Cart |
In 2004, I found two marks at the Disney-MGM Studios park. The first one is in the ground near a popcorn cart on Hollywood Boulevard, between the main park entrance and the sorcerer's hat. This mark has no numbers etched on it. Update March 2012: According to the logs on Waymarking.com, this mark was destroyed sometime between October 2010 and June 2011. Thanks to Bret for sending me photos of the remains of the mark to post here. The waymark for this mark has been archived, but you can still view its Waymarking.com page if you want to see more photos and read finders' logs. Link to waymark. |

After seeing my photos, Nick went to the park and got his own pictures to put together this handy montage.

In May, 2004, JJ noticed that there was a new popcorn cart (more like a popcorn diner!) in a slightly different location, so he took these new photos.

The second one I found in 2004 is in the curb near the main entrance of the Disney & Co.
store at the intersection of Hollywood and West. Link to waymark.

MGM-3 Star Tours FP Distribution |
Nick also contributed this one, which is near the FastPass distribution point for Star Tours. Interestingly, it has two markings after the "P.I." part: 1345400 and 1345410. Update June 2007: Scott looked for this one and discovered that the pavement has been redone in this area, with no sign of the mark. However, I'm leaving a link to its Waymarking.com page in case you still want to view the information there. Link to waymark.

MGM-4 Mickey Ave. |
Nick found this one, which has no ID number, on Mickey Avenue. The original photo is looking down the street toward the Backlot Tour building. Update: In August 2008, Nick informed me that this area had been repaved and the curb containing the mark was gone. For historical reference, here's a link to its Waymarking.com page. MGM-5 Backlot Express-Front |
And this one from Nick, near the entrance to the Backlot Express cafeteria, has three markings on it! Near the "P.I." are "1298410" and "1298470." On the righthand side is "105.829." Andy also got a nice shot of it in 2012. Link to waymark.

MGM-6 One Man's Dream |
Thanks to Meg for finding this mark near the entrance to "The Making of the Haunted Mansion Movie." As you can see, it's also right next door to "One Man's Dream," which will probably be a more permanent reference point. Nick was later able to get a closeup and a slightly different location photo. Update: Sometime between May and August 2008, this area was repaved and a new mark was installed. Link to waymark. |
MGM-7 Crossroads of the World |
Jay found this unnumbered benchmark near Crossroads of the World, a sundries shop just inside the entrance of Disney-MGM Studios. Nick was later able to verify its existence and get photos of it. Link to waymark.

MGM-8 Echo Lake |
Kurt had reported seeing this unnumbered mark near Echo Lake. Nick found it on the lower walkway right by the lake across from Hollywood and Vine and the Tune-In Lounge. John also sent in a photo of it that he took in 2005. Link to waymark.

MGM-10 Golden Age Souvenirs |
Another one of those unusual three-number disks. The markings on this one--which is between the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and Golden Age Souvenirs--are "PI.1297370," "1297472," and "106.480." Thanks to Nick for a photo from 2004 and Andy for a couple from 2012. Link to waymark.
|
MGM-11 ABC Commissary |
This one, near the ABC Commissary, is numbered "PI 1385470." Update June 2007: Scott has informed me that this mark is gone, the victim of repaving. However, if you'd like to read the old Waymarking.com logs for it, here's a link to them. Link to waymark.

MGM-12 Fantasmic Theater |
Here's one that's probably hard to spot because people are generally in this area when it's dark and they're busy finding seats for "Fantasmic!" Thanks to Jillian and JJ for contributing this one. Jillian says the mark is at the bottom of the Mickey section of the theater. Link to waymark.

MGM-13 Ticket Booths |
In late July, 2004, JJ was visiting the Studios with family and spotted this different type of marker. It's only about the size of a half-dollar (note the size of the ticket next to it in the first photo) and has only the Mickey world-ears logo and the words "SURVEY MARKER." Link to waymark.
Andy got a very pretty photo of the entrance area in October, 2015. |

MGM-14 MGM Arch |
No sooner had I heard from JJ than Nick sent me a note saying that he had found the same kind of marker. This one is near the arch between the Mickey hat and the Animation Courtyard, near the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant. He put a quarter next to this one to help indicate its size. Link to waymark.
Nick notes that it will take benchmark hunters a little "recalibration" to spot these smaller marks. Do try to look for them, and please let me know if you find any others.
In October 2015, Andy got a couple of new photos of this mark. Check out the beautiful colors on the one with the archway. |

MGM-15 Min & Bill's |
Nick found this numberless marker near the entrance to Min & Bill's Dockside Diner. Update: In early 2009, Charlie informed me that this mark was gone. It was apparently the victim of repaving. If you'd like to see the old logs for it on Waymarking.com, here's a link to its page. Link to waymark. |

Jillian found this one on the side of the Star Tours building. Link to waymark.
|
MGM-17 Backlot Express-Side |
Like Nick's MGM-5, this mark found by Jillian near the Backlot Express restaurant also has three numbers in two different formats. This time, the numbers are PI 1298430, 1298471, and 105.421. This one is near the Backlot Express entrance that faces Star Tours. Thanks to Nick for capturing a location photo and coordinates. Link to waymark.

MGM-18 Bus Stop 11 (formerly Bus Stop 4) |
Nick found this one near Bus Stop 4 at Disney-MGM Studios. Link to waymark.
|
This mark is still fine as of May 2015, but Nick noticed that the bus stop is now numbered 11 instead of 4.

MGM-19 Great Movie Ride |
Another mini-marker, this one found by Nick near the Great Movie Ride. Link to waymark.
|
In May 2015, Nick discovered that for some reason, this marker was moved a foot or so. Because this website uses coordinates from consumer handheld GPS receivers, which are only considered accurate to within 30 feet anyway, I'm still providing the same coordinates for this one. It's weird that the marker was moved, though.

MGM-20 Star Tours FP Entrance |
Scott and his family made the most of a rainy day by finding this marker while they were waiting under cover with a bunch of other folks to get into Star Tours. Scott and Cindy's daughters Sara and Alexandria spotted this one. (That's Sara in the pink outfit standing next to Cindy. Alexandria is in the doorway of the building, in a green outfit.) Scott says it's on top of a curb next to the side pathway that leads to the stage used for the Star Wars weekends. Update: In January, 2009, Charlie informed me that this one is gone. In his photo, you can see how the area to the right of the Imperial Walker's leg was reworked to install a wheelchair ramp. Here's the mark's Waymarking.com page if you still want to see additional information about it. Link to waymark. |
MGM-21 Little Mermaid Entrance |
Scott almost literally tripped over this one while walking into the theater to see "Voyage of the Little Mermaid" during a visit to WDW in June, 2007. Link to waymark.
|
MGM-22 Hollywood & Vine |
Congratulations to Amy for finding this mark at the north end of Echo Lake in January 2011. It's near the Hollywood & Vine restaurant. Nick kindly went looking for it to get me some photos and coordinates. Link to waymark.
