Summary |
The 2013 flood affected more of "Lynx River" than the 2005 flood did. If you look at the map of that flood in my 2005 flood report, you'll see that last time, the river just barely reached the store/motel and stopped below Peter and Michelle's houses, with a smaller stream running down the "airstrip." This time, it covered the entire set. As I post this information in September, 2013, there is still a lot of work to be done to restore the set. There was actually very little serious damage to the buildings. As you can see in the photos below, the church building was picked up by the floodwaters and pushed into the RCMP detachment. However, there doesn't appear to be a lot of damage to either building, so hopefully the church can be moved back to its proper location and both buildings patched up. Water did get into the band hall and some other buildings, but not very high. Gerry's store was removed some years ago and replaced by a façade, which was washed away this time. The building that has the school at the front and Peter Kenidi's house at the back had a lot of the land under it washed out, causing it to buckle, but hopefully it will be salvageable. The main problem with the set area at this point is all the debris between the buildings. There's tons of mud, tree branches, etc. Removing all that is going to take a lot of bulldozing! Also, some shipping containers that were used for the "Borealis" TV pilot were carried down the "airstrip," so those have to be moved back where they belong. By the way, those of you who haven't followed the adventures of the Nof60 set closely for the past few years may be confused by the photo of the "Pike River Bar and Grill." That is indeed the Lynx River band hall, after its conversion for the TV movie "A Heartland Christmas" a few years ago. |
