It aired in Canada on CBC from 1992 to 1998. In the U.S., some seasons were shown on the Trio channel on DirecTV. The series has also been seen in more than 100 other countries around the world. Spoiler warning: "North of 60" has a lot of plotlines that weave in and out of multiple episodes. Although I've tried to avoid major spoilers within each episode's description, it's virtually impossible to describe some episodes without referring to events that happened earlier. He finds that the law hasn't been enforced very firmly in the past, but his attempts to instantly change that don't go over well with the locals. Episode 2: "A Different Drummer" Writers: Barbara Samuels and Wayne Grigsby Director: Stuart Margolin Albert Golo (Gordon Tootoosis) and his sons taunt Eric by enticing the locals with low-cost liquor, so Eric makes it his top priority to put them out of business. He also files charges against Rosie Deela (Tina Louise Bomberry) for assaulting her husband Leon (Erroll Kinistino), putting himself in the middle of their complicated feelings. Episode 3: "The Road Not Taken" Writer: Rebecca Schechter Director: Anne Wheeler The people of Lynx River throw obstacles--not all of them legal-- in the path of two government surveyors who may be planning a new highway to the town. Meanwhile, flower petals falling from the sky announce the arrival of Al Bishop (Stephen Shellen), who desperately wants to get back together with Sarah and pursues her aggressively. Episode 4: "Fair Trade" Writer: Charles Lazer Director: Graeme Campbell RCMP Inspector Cormier (Donald Pilon) shows up to see how Eric is adapting to his new posting. Teevee Tenia (Dakota House) and Joey Small Boat (Mervin Good Eagle) find a skeleton, which Michelle and Eric determine is the body of a lost hunter. But before they can return the skeleton to the man's family, Albert (Gordon Tootoosis) steals it and demands that the government give back his grandparents' skeletons from a museum in exchange. Leon (Erroll Kinistino) hangs on to sobriety by a thin thread. Episode 5: "Letting Go" Writers: Wayne Grigsby and Barbara Samuels Director: Stuart Margolin Teevee (Dakota House) and Joey (Mervin Good Eagle) talk Hannah Kenidi (Selina Hanuse) into stealing some candy from Gerry Kisilenko's (Lubomir Mykytiuk) store--part of her rebellion against being "the Mountie's daughter." When Hannah's father, Louis Claybank (Byron Chief Moon), shows up in Lynx River, she sees a way to escape her troubled relationship with Michelle. Meanwhile, Elsie Tsa Che (Wilma Pelly) encourages the attraction between Sarah and Eric. Episode 6: "Out of the Blue" Writer: David Barlow Director: Randy Bradshaw Three U.S. Air Force men stricken with food poisoning make an emergency stop in Lynx River. While the captain recuperates at the clinic, the others take a room at the motel--where Eric finds them with Marie Tenia (Shaneen Ann Fox) and Donna Kizha (Raven Hart). Teevee (Dakota House), who provided the visitors with liquor, feels responsible for the mistreatment of his sister. As anger builds among the townspeople, Eric and Michelle are afraid that the Crown may plea bargain the incident instead of going to trial. Episode 7: "The Reunion" Writer: David Young Director: Richard Lewis Eric's wife Lindy (Barbara Tyson) and their two children arrive in Lynx River for a visit that's strained by Eric and Lindy's marital difficulties. Michelle tries to prove that a Wolverine Lake resident is poaching moose. Episode 8: "Birthright" Writer: Jean Stawarz Director: Randy Bradshaw Over Sarah's strong objections, Ellen Kenidi (Renae Morriseau) refuses to go to Yellowknife to have her baby--giving Harris Miller (Timothy Webber) the idea of setting up a midwifery school in Lynx River. Eric starts a boxing program to help channel the energy of the local boys--especially Teevee (Dakota House) and Joey (Mervin Good Eagle), who have been fighting over Joey's attentions to Marie (Shaneen Ann Fox). Episode 9: "Cold Comfort" Writer: Michael Mercer Director: Sturla Gunnarsson Donna (Raven Hart) becomes increasingly rebellious and self- destructive--reminding Michelle uncomfortably of her own younger years. Teevee (Dakota House) videotapes Eric and Sarah in a compromising situation and threatens to play the tape over the Lynx River cable television system. Episode 10: "The Act of Hares" Writer: David Barlow Director: George Bloomfield Andre LeBret (Buffalo Child) attacks Peter, accusing him of sleeping with his wife, Sylvie (Annette Loe). Albert (Gordon Tootoosis) forces Eric to investigate Peter for possible misappropriation of band funds. Eric gets frustrated about Sarah keeping him at a distance. Episode 11: "The Art of the Deal" Writer: Jordan Wheeler Director: Joseph Scanlan A slick crafts dealer (Graham Greene) breezes into town, promising big money to local artisans and overcoming Michelle's initial suspicions. Sarah and Eric try to get Joe Gomba (Jimmy Herman) to give up eating meat to help his stomach problems. Episode 12: "Sisters of Mercy" Writer: Rebecca Schechter Director: George Bloomfield Eric's son Andy (Robbie Bowen) reluctantly comes to visit his father. When Andy ignores his father's prohibition against spending time with Teevee, he finds himself in big trouble. Hannah gets caught in the middle when one of Michelle's schoolteachers (Diana Leblanc) arrives in Lynx River to judge a children's essay contest. Episode 13: "Freeze Out" Writer: David Barlow Director: Stacey Curtis After Leon Deela (Erroll Kinistino) and Ray Jhikhe (Arthur Poundmaker) get drunk and Ray dies of exposure, Eric tries to nail Albert (Gordon Tootoosis) for selling them the liquor. When he fails, someone takes matters into their own hands and shoots Albert--but Eric and Michelle get no help from the townspeople in solving the crime. Meanwhile, Rosie (Tina Louise Bomberry) is reluctant to take Leon back after his fall off the wagon, Sarah is upset that Eric is avoiding her, and Teevee (Dakota House) tries to impress a student nurse (Janne Mortil). Episode 14: "All About Leslie" Writer: Drew Taylor Director: Richard Lewis Sarah's student assistant Leslie (Janne Mortil) has a disruptive effect on the town's men. While Teevee (Dakota House) and Harris (Timothy Webber) put the moves on her, she tries to get Eric's attention--and not always in the most ethical manner. Meanwhile, Rosie's (Tina Louise Bomberry) elaborate wedding preparations drive Leon (Erroll Kinistino) and his friends crazy. Episode 15: "Southern Comfort" Writer: Wayne Grigsby and Barbara Samuels Director: Brad Turner Eric and Sarah's Hawaiian vacation plans are put on hold when Elsie (Wilma Pelly) asks Eric to find Teevee (Dakota House), who has run away to Vancouver to see Leslie (Janne Mortil). When Teevee's duffel bag is stolen and he discovers that Leslie has a live-in boyfriend, he takes up with a street hustler (Adam Beach) to survive. While Eric is in Vancouver looking for Teevee, he gets a tempting job offer from one of his old RCMP friends. Meanwhile, back in Lynx River, Peter is upset about Harris' (Timothy Webber) attentions to Lois Tenia (Willene Tootoosis). Episode 16: "Fire" Writer: Peter Lauterman Director: Joseph Scanlan Teevee's (Dakota House) rebellious behavior alienates everyone around him, so when Michelle's house burns down the night after he threatens her, suspicion falls on him. Michelle is frustrated when Hannah (Selina Hanuse) has trouble adjusting to their new house. Teevee (Dakota House) expresses his opinion of the new recreation center in dramatic fashion. Episode 18: "Ciao, Baby" Writer: Peter Lauterman Director: George Bloomfield Harris (Timothy Webber) convinces some Italian furriers (Norma Dell'Agnese, Justin Louis) to buy pelts from the band--but when Peter insists that they also help build a tanning factory, the entire deal is jeopardized. Bertha Kizha (Lori Lea Okemow) unexpectedly turns down a scholarship to a high school in Yellowknife. Eric gets the last of his things from Sarah's apartment. Episode 19: "Miles to Go" Writer: Jordan Wheeler Director: Stacey Stewart Curtis Eric and Joe's (Jimmy Herman) search for some missing hikers gets sidetracked when Eric spots the first caribou seen near Lynx River in 13 years. When Sarah's replacement fails to show up so that she can go on vacation, she turns her anger on everyone around her. Teevee (Dakota House) spends his days kicking around town after he's kicked out of school. Episode 20: "Hostage" Writer: Rebecca Schechter Director: Gerard Ciccoritti Andre LeBret (Buffalo Child), angry over the low price of furs after Peter's failed deal with the Italians, takes hostages in the band office and demands to talk to Peter. When things go badly, Inspector Cormier (Yvan Ponton) holds Eric responsible and tries to determine whether Michelle's actions were justified. Episode 21: "Arrangements" Writer: Peter Lauterman Director: Randy Bradshaw Michelle has trouble focusing on her job after the LeBret shooting--a situation made even worse by Teevee's (Dakota House) taunting. Maria Sangali (Norma Dell'Agnese) returns to Lynx River, again offering to build a tanning factory and again rebuffed by Peter, who wants the band to have complete control over their fur business. Sarah finds herself unexpectedly accepting favors from Albert Golo (Gordon Tootoosis). Episode 22: "Rumours" Writer: Andrew Wreggitt Director: TW Peacocke Inspector Cormier (Yvan Ponton) arrives in Lynx River and encourages Michelle to take a promotion in another town, but refuses to explain why. Teevee encourages Bertha (Lori Lea Okemow) to have an abortion. Harris Miller (Timothy Webber) wants to marry Lois Tenia (Willene Tootoosis), but she's concerned about Teevee's (Dakota House) resistance to their relationship. Sarah and Rosie (Tina Louise Bomberry) battle over the proper treatment for Leon's (Erroll Kinistino) arm infection. Episode 23: "Lost Weekend" Writer: Barbara Samuels and Wayne Grigsby Director: Brad Turner To counter anti-fur activists, Peter brings in an archaeologist (Garwin Sanford) to prove that the Dene have been trapping in the Lynx River area for thousands of years--but the archaeologist finds something in the town that interests him even more than old hunting knives. Peter and Harris (Timothy Webber) try to keep the tannery deal together despite a funding crisis. After making a potentially fatal misdiagnosis, Sarah falls apart emotionally. Episode 24: "Raven" Writer: Jordan Wheeler Director: Randy Bradshaw An escaped convict (Ben Cardinal) comes back to Lynx River to get revenge on Michelle. She goes looking for him, unaware that he's holding Eric hostage in the woods. Episode 25: "Maps and Dreams" Writer: Peter Lauterman Director: Eleanore Lindo Sarah remains at the sanitarium in Edmonton as her doctor tries to determine whether she's psychologically well enough to return to work--but does anyone in Lynx River want her back? Gerry (Lubomir Mykytiuk), angry at being left out of discussions that affect his investment in the tanning factory, threatens to pull out of the deal. David Shore (Garwin Sanford) returns to Lynx River and starts spending time with Michelle, much to Eric's annoyance. Episode 26: "Born Again" Writer: Conni Massing Director: Anne Wheeler Sarah returns to Lynx River and resumes her job at the health center, trying to win back the confidence of the townspeople. The situation comes to a boiling point when Peter brings in a Dene nurse to work with her. Rosie's plans to start her own business meet with derision from Leon. Episode 27: "Crossing the River" Writer: Rob Forsyth Director: Stacey Stewart Curtis David Shore (Garwin Sanford) returns to Lynx River, and his affair with Michelle upsets Eric. Peter tries to get Teevee (Dakota House) to learn some responsibility by offering him a job supervising an after-school program for the local kids. Bertha (Lori Lea Okemow) tires of Teevee ignoring her and the baby and decides to get on with her life. Sarah, still trying to find her bearings, moves in with Albert (Gordon Tootoosis). Episode 28: "Follow the Leader" Writer: Arthur Samuels Director: TW Peacocke Peter and Albert (Gordon Tootoosis) vie for control of the tannery while the local children lobby for a hockey rink. Peter chides Michelle about her relationship with David Shore (Garwin Sanford), and Eric is upset about Sarah living with Albert. Episode 29: "Trapped" Writer: Thomas King Director: Stacey Stewart Curtis Two animal rights activists (Joe Ziegler, Nancy Banks) show up in Lynx River to protest the tannery. Rosie (Tina Louise Bomberry) has been saving money to open a restaurant, but Leon (Erroll Kinistino) wants to use it to buy a new truck. Episode 30: "All Fall Down" Writer: Hart Hanson Director: Stuart Margolin and Tom Jackson When the $12,00 vat for the tannery arrives damaged, the manufacturer claims that the band's insurance should pay for a replacement--but Harris (Timothy Webber) saved money by not buying insurance. David Shore (Garwin Sanford) returns to Lynx River determined to break off his affair with Michelle. Rosie (Tina Louise Bomberry) tells Gerry (Lubomir Mykytiuk) that she plans to open her own cafe. Episode 31: "Harvest" Writer: Stuart Margolin Director: TW Peacocke Peter develops scaled-down plans for a tannery and sues the band's Italian investors. Depressed by the failure of the tannery project, Rosie (Tina Louise Bomberry) and some other Lynx River residents take to drinking. Gerry (Lubomir Mykytiuk) raises his prices to try to recoup the money he lost on the project. Episode 32: "The Getting of Wisdom" Writer: Wayne Grigsby and Barbara Samuels Director: Bruce Pittman Albert (Gordon Tootoosis) and Peter battle it out for band chief-- until some of the townspeople start talking up a third candidate. Episode 34: "The Long Goodbye" Writer: Hart Hanson Director: Richard Lewis The people of Lynx River--especially Michelle and Sarah--try to come to terms with Eric's death. Eric's estranged wife Lindy (Barbara Tyson) arrives to take home his possessions. Albert considers replacing the RCMP detachment with a band constable. Episode 35: "Pulling Up Stakes" Writer: Stacey Kaser Director: TW Peacocke Michelle catches Hannah (Selina Hanuse) at a drinking party with older kids--and later, Hannah admits to breaking into Gerry's (Lubomir Mykytiuk) store and taking some things. A diamond mining company prepares to put claim stakes near Lynx River, prompting a small counterattack by some of the residents. Episode 36: "Partners" Writer: Jordan Wheeler Director: Richard Lewis As business drops at Gerry Kisilenko's (Lubomir Mykytiuk) cafe due to friction with the townspeople, Rosie Deela (Tina Louise Bomberry) wants to buy it and Peter tries to resuscitate a plan for a co-op store. Bertha Kizha (Lori Lea Okemow) returns from Yellowknife for the summer and Teevee (Dakota House) tries to get back in her good graces. Episode 37: "The Cure" Writer: Hart Hanson Director: Jeff Woolnough Albert convinces Betty Moses (Tantoo Cardinal) to build a new treatment center in Lynx River instead of Fort McIntyre. Sandy Carlisle (Francis Bamberger) and Betty arrive in Lynx River to finalize the plans while Peter tries to figure out what changed Betty's mind. Bertha (Lori Lea Okemow) tries to cope with Teevee's (Dakota House) unwillingness to do anything around the house. Episode 38: "A Rock and a Hard Place" Writer: Wayne Grigsby and Barbara Samuels Director: Eleanore Lindo Cpl. Brian Fletcher (Robert Bockstael) arrives to take over the detachment while Michelle recovers from Eric's death. Michelle contemplates quitting the RCMP and taking the band constable job, but Albert puts obstacles in her way. Disputes occur over the treatment center construction project, leading to a fire and a beating. Teevee (Dakota House) quits his recreation center job after the band council refuses to give him a raise. Episode 39: "Spin Dry" Writer: Jordan Wheeler Director: Gil Cardinal Betty Moses (Tantoo Cardinal) wants to make the treatment center a long-term facility--but will that reduce the number of jobs for Lynx River residents? Michelle and Hannah's (Selina Hanuse) annual camping weekend brings up painful memories of Michelle's own childhood. Teevee (Dakota House) tries to convince Bertha (Lori Lea Okemow) to stay in Lynx River instead of going to nursing school in Yellowknife. Episode 40: "You Can't Get There From Here" Writer: Andrew Wreggitt Director: Alan Simmonds Teevee (Dakota House) and Peter go to Yellowknife to pitch Teevee's idea for a regional youth recreation coordinator to government officials. While they're there, Sandy Carlisle (Francis Bamberger) offers Peter a job in Ottawa. Betty (Tantoo Cardinal) is nervous about the opening of the treatment center--especially when one of her clients, Suzie Muskrat (Pamela Matthews), disappears on the first night. Episode 41: "The Gift" Writer: Peter Lauterman Director: Joanna McIntyre Betty (Tantoo Cardinal) offers Sarah a counseling job at the treatment center, but Sarah meets with resistance from Albert. Peter contemplates taking the job in Ottawa. Bertha (Lori Lea Okemow) is upset because Teevee (Dakota House) doesn't have a steady job to support their baby. Albert asks Sandy (Francis Bamberger) to get rid of Betty, so Sandy offers her a "career advancement"--but is Betty the person Albert is really trying to control? Episode 42: "The Ties That Bind" Writer: Thomas King Director: Brad Turner Albert invites an old friend, Ben Montour (August Schellenberg), to town to increase art awareness among the people of Lynx River, and to give Ben a chance to straighten out his life. Ben immediately insults the townsfolk--and puts moves on Lois Tenia (Willene Tootoosis). Peter and Ellen's (Renae Morriseau) relationship is strained by Peter's imminent move to Ottawa. Meanwhile, Peter keeps seeing a mysterious young boy (Mitchell Hourie). Episode 43: "Break Dance" Writer: Jordan Wheeler Director: Ken Jubenvill Teevee (Dakota House) gets a shock when he delivers some vodka to Ben Montour's (August Schellenberg) motel room. When Harris (Timothy Webber) discovers who else was in the room, he also turns against the visiting artist. Michelle tries to convince Sarah that Albert is still bootlegging. Episode 44: "Bargains" Writers: Wayne Grigsby and Barbara Samuels Director: TW Peacocke Peter neglects his band council duties as he busies himself gathering oral histories from Lynx River residents. Ben Montour (August Schellenberg) continues to disrupt the local citizenry-- especially the people who care about Lois Tenia (Willene Tootoosis). Albert uses his position as chief to make life difficult for a lot of people. Michelle and Brian (Robert Bockstael) plan to throw the book at Nathan Golo (Michael P. Obey) for bootlegging and gambling --but Albert knows something that may force Brian to back off. Episode 45: "Shelter" Writer: Stacey Kaser Director: Alan Simmonds The band council asks Peter to take over as chief in Albert's absence. Teevee (Dakota House) isn't happy to see an acquaintance (Adam Beach) from Vancouver--even after the other man saves him from an attack by the Golo boys. The demands of Rosie's (Tina Louise Bomberry) work cause friction between her and Leon (Erroll Kinistino). Episode 46: "The Hunt" Writer: Peter Lauterman Director: TW Peacocke Teevee (Dakota House) tries to convince Nathan (Michael P. Obey) that he's loyal--but secretly asks Michelle for protection so that he can testify against Nathan. Leon (Erroll Kinistino) and Joe (Jimmy Herman) find Ben Montour (August Schellenberg) lying drunk on the road outside of town. Albert returns unexpectedly and resumes his duties as chief. Nevada (Adam Beach) decides to stay in Lynx River for a while, and Joey (Mervin Good Eagle) lets him come along on a moose hunt--which turns serious when Teevee shows up on the lam from an angry Nathan. Episode 47: "Life is a Memory" Writer: Rob Forsyth Director: Gil Cardinal Word gets out that Nevada (Adam Beach) is HIV positive, evoking strong reactions among the townspeople. Lois (Willene Tootoosis), rejected by both Ben (August Schellenberg) and Harris (Timothy Webber), takes a drastic step. Episode 48: "The Trial" Writer: Hart Hanson Director: Stacey Stewart Curtis Walter and Herbert Golo (Danny Rabbit, Jesse Ed Azure) threaten Daniel Deela (Lorne Cardinal) and Teevee Tenia (Dakota House) before Nathan Golo's (Michael P. Obey) trial. Teevee decides to take a job in another town, but Bertha (Lori Lea Okemow) refuses to go with him-- and Teevee gets angry at Joey's (Mervin Good Eagle) increasing attention to her. Leon (Erroll Kinistino) wants the band to take back Gerry's house trailer for his cousin Daniel (Lorne Cardinal), whose entire family is bunked in with the Deelas. Sarah is worried that she and her soon-to-arrive baby won't have a place to live if Albert (Gordon Tootoosis) keeps disappearing. Meanwhile, Nathan Golo (Michael P. Obey) has had enough of living in the bush and wants his banishment ended. Episode 50: "Arrival And Departure" Writer: Jordan Wheeler Director: David Warry-Smith Original CBC airdate: 10/19/95 Brian's wife Rosemary (Julie Stewart) comes for a visit and announces her intention to stay permanently. But will she fit in in Lynx River? Episode 51: "At Home & Away" Writer: Robert Forsyth Director: Brad Turner Original CBC airdate: 10/26/95 Sarah, Gerry (Lubomir Mykytiuk), and Rosemary (Julie Stewart) all sneak food to the banished Nathan Golo (Michael P. Obey). Teevee returns to Lynx River and expects to pick up where he left off with Bertha (Lori Lea Okemow) and Kyla.
